I have spent summers at our lot in Lac La Belle for as long as I can remember. I can still remember when our summer cottage was not built and I could still spend the whole day there without a care in the world. Things are more civilized now that we have a residence; however, the feeling of freedom and tranquility still remains. My family built a cottage on the lot sometime before 1946, possibly the oldest on our shore, before there was power or roads on our side of the lake. That old cottage was dismantled; however, the sauna from that era still stand. In 1998, my grandparents built a quaint, two bedroom cottage so we could take advantage of the seculsion as we wished. That was probably the best investment they ever made. Since then, numerous gatherings of family and friends have transpired there, and it seems that no one can get quite enough of the beautiful surroundings.

Even though there are only two channels on the TV and only one store within a thirty mile radius, there never seems to be enough time in a day to soak in the views and activities. Whether it be sitting on the beach, kayaking to the lighthouse, riding the four-wheeler on the snowmobile trails, walking along the trails, picking wild berries, feeding the ducks, laying on the dock, fishing in the reeds, or soaking in the entire scene on top of Mt. Bohemia, there is always something to do.

I recently flew one of my friends to Michigan to spend a week with me this summer and they were just as mesmerized by the area as I was. It made me feel good that someone else was able to appreciate nature in its purest and most serene form. Contained on these pages, you will find out more about this wonderful lakeside retreat.
