Note: New data has been collected on many of
the Ocha family members. I have ordered
various obituaries and vital records to tie
up more loose ends in this family.
Antoine OCHA was born in
Canada in 1812. The only thing we know about
his parents are two censuses that have
conflicting information, one says they were
born in Canada and another says they were
from France.
Most of the information
as far as dates and places that happened in
Antoine's life were found in his son
Joseph's Civil War Pension Files. Joseph
died during the civil war and Antoine was
aged and sick at the time so applied for and
received a pension for Joseph's service.
Antoine and his wives
produced brave and courageous children who
served their country, and have performed
their duties within their service to the
point of receiving recognition for it in
newspapers of the day, history books and
pleas to the U.S. Congress. One son is
still being written about today although he
died in 1912 while in the US Life Saving
Service.
The Fontaine family
line is widespread in North America.
The spellings are varied Fontain, Fountain,
Fontaine, Fantan, Fontin, Fountin are found
in source files. I had help from the
Fontaine Surname Association of Canada,
precisely Roger Fontaine, in constructing
Georgiana's line back to the original
settler in the Canada on this line. I
am continuing research and gathering the
evidence for this line from films of the
original parish records.
