Non Military Vital Record Data
Note: This name is very common and thus hard to research. The census data from 1840 to 1900 turned up nothing, that referred to a Andrew Jackson in this age range in Wayne County. Michigan State Death Records also had the same problems. One Andrew Jackson was found dying in Nottawa Twp., Isabella Co., but the age was off and date before 1891. Another Andrew Jackson died March 21, 1908 in Denver Twp. and listed as Red. This Andrew was born Apr. 20, 1823.

Note From Grandaughter
I was checking out the Native Americans in Michigan web site. It has been a while since I logged onto this site and I see that you have posted information on veterans. I can fill in the blanks you have for Andrew Jackson who served in Co. K of the 1st Michigan Volunteer Sharpshooters. Your notes show that you were trying to trace his locations but were not having any luck. The problem is is that his name was Edward Andrew Jackson and he went by Edward, except for his military service. I’m not sure why. There is some question if his name was Edward Andrew or Andrew Edward, but he was always listed as Edward on census and other records.
Edward is my gggrandfather . He was born July 4, 1837 in Hyde Park, Dutchess, New York. He died December 23, 1893 in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan. He lived most of his live in Ontario Canada and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Blenheim, Kent, Ontario. His parents were Peter and Hannah Jackson. His mother Hannah was supposedly a full-blooded native American. I have not been able to find any information on his parents as yet, but Edward was described as an Indian in his marriage affidavit included in his pension records. He married Anna Sophia Nichols on August 30, 1866 in Chatham, Ontario. He and Anna had ten children:
Laura Ada Jackson
Howard Bartlett Jackson
Edith Anne Jackson
Orilla Mae Jackson
Alice Louise Jackson
Edward Andrew Jackson
Harriett Sophia Jackson
George Henry Jackson
Mary Ellen Jackson
Lillian Isabelle Jackson
In 1871 Edward and Annie are living in Harwich, Kent, Ontario. In 1881 and 1891 they are living in Blenheim, Kent, Ontario. In 1891-2 they moved to Detroit where Edward died in 1893.
Let me know if I can help any further.
