1838 Merchants Letter from Mackinac - Johnston Matter
The undersigned merchants of Mackinac, state that Mr. William Johnston is engaged in trade in the place in company, as is understood, with Mr. B. Chapman. That they opened store and commenced sales in the early part of July, and were thus engaged previous to the 25th of that month, and that Mr. Johnston has been an active partner during the entire period of their business and was then engaged during the recent payment to the Indians.
Mackinac October 7th 1838.
