Welcome to Native Americans In Michigan!

The Native Americans In Michigan Genealogy Research Center is a site dedicated to those with Native American heritage and was created to present an online portal to documents for researching your family lines.

Feel free to browse the site or search the site using the links on the left menu.

NEWS

This site has been limping along of late because the application is being overtaxed, due to the amount of visitors and the amount of files going online. This site is getting an update on the application that it runs on, which is better and uses an MS SQL database which can handle larger loads of data and visitors. Development has just started, and the app. is running. Next I will be formatting it to work like this one, but with some new features. After that I will move the data here to the new server space and then let the visitors here know when it is ready.

June 2, 2011:

Site is running consistently and I am transferring data. You can take a peek at it here but I am far from done. New Native Americans In Michigan Site

Volunteers Needed

Volunteer to help other researchers by typing up data and putting online. Types of records that can be typed up are extractions of vital records from county records, cemetery readings, census extractions, land record extractions, etc. If you are interested in helping for a hour or two, or have data to submit please contact us.

I am working through the films from the various Indian Agencies and Superintendcies to transcribe data to put on this site. There are many of these films to go through and there is a lot of data on them. If you have access to any of these films, or to other data with lists of names that is copyright free and would like to help other researchers, please create an account at the left bottom to submit a file.

The MIGenWeb Project

In March and April, 1996, a group of genealogists organized the MIGenWeb Project. The idea was to provide a single entry point for all Michigan counties, where collected databases would be stored. In addition, the databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an individual were found in more than one county, they could be located in the index.

At the same time, volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of databases and generally oversee the contents of each project web site.

My name is Patricia Wazny-Hamp, and I am the person responsible for Native Americans In Michigan Project. If you would like to contribute your information to this site, please let me know. If you would like to host a MIGenWeb county, or volunteer in another area of the MIGenWeb Project, contact Jan Cortez at the The MIGenWeb Project.
