RESEARCH: Joe had a career in the U.S. Merchant Marines in which he was an officer. In later years he was a Marine Engineer Consultant with Ventura Sea Specialties in Ojai, CA. While in the Merchant Marine his ship was sunk in the South Atlantic by a German submarine and he and 14 other men spent four days in a life boat before sighting the coast of Brazil. Treasures he had collected from all around the world went down with the ship. Joe died in Ojai, CA of lung cancer on his 65th birthday, 19 Jun 1982.
