James G. H. EASTMAN, father of John L. EASTMAN, bought land in Groveland Twp., Oakland Co., Michigan in 1836. Hannah and William H. EASTMAN had a different mother than John. The family moved to Arcadia Twp., Lapeer Co. about 1850. Hannah married Linus LAMB and stayed in Oakland Co. About 1859, the family moved to Midland Co., with William H. married to Caroline SHOTWELL staying in Lapeer Co. John L. EASTMAN was a clerk in Midland Village before joining Co F 5th Mich Inf in 1861. He was wounded in the Civil War in January 1864. Married Lotty CALDWELL. He bought 102 acres in section 7, Gratiot Co. They are buried Spencer Cemetery, Montcalm Co..
