COURTNEY, MANUFACTURERS, MATCH, SWIFT posted by Kay Barritt on Friday, December 4, 1998

Family oral history claims that our ancestor, HENRY BELL COURTNEY, (founder of SWIFT & COURTNEY MATCH MFG.) may have relied on the shipping industry of the Great Lakes to import Canadian pine trees to their plant in Chicago, IL, around 1878. I'd be delighted to hear from anyone who might have more information. Thanks so very much! .
