Declaration For Widow's Pension
State of Michigan
County of Leelanau


On this twenty ninth day of Sept. A.D. 1864, personally appeared before the Dept. County Clerk within the County and Stae aforesaid, Mrs. Emma Greensky a resident of North Port in the County of Leelenauw and State of Michigan aged 17 years, who, being first duly sworn according to law, doth, on her oath, make the following declaration, in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the Act of Congress, approved July 14, 1862.

That she is the widow of Benjamin Greensky who was a private in Company K commanded by Capt. Andress in the first Michigan Regiment of Sharp Shooters in the war of 1861, who was killed on or about the 10 day of May A.D. 1864, and the cause of his death was - he was Killed in the battle of the Wilderness.

She further declares she was married to the said Benjamin Greensky on the thirteenth day of July in the year 1863 at Northport by one Salmon Steele a minister of the Gospel; that she believes ther is a public record of her said marriage an authentic ?nted copy of which accompanies this declaration and that the names, ages, and residences of her children under sixteen years of age, are as follows: She has no children.

That her husband, the aforesaid, died on the day above mentioned and that she has remained a widow ever since that period, as will more fully appear by references to the proof hereto annexed.

That her Post Office Address is North Port, Michigan.

She also declares that she has not, in any manner, been engaged in, or aided or abetted, the rebellion in the United States; that the best proof of her marriage is that which accompanies this declaration.

And she hereby constitutes and appoints F. Gl. Russell, Esq. of Detroit her Attorney, to prosecute the claim and procure a certificat, and to do all other acts necessary in the premises.

Also, personally appeared Daniel Rodd and (blank) residents of Northport, Michigan persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit, and who being by me duly sworn, say that they were present and saw Mrs. Emma Greensky sign her name, or make her mark, to the foregoing Declaration and Power of Attorney; and they further swear that they ........ That their knowledge of the above stated facts and the identity of the claimant as the widow of the said deceased soldier is derived from - an intimate acquaintance with the family of the past two years. Sworn and subscribe, and acknowleged before me this twenty ninth day of Sept. A.D. 1864, and I hereby certify, that I have no interest, direct or indirect, in the prosecution of this claim; that the Circuit Cort within and for the County of Leeanau aforesaid, of which I am Dept. Clerk. is a Court of Record, having a seal.

In Testimony Whereof, I have hereunto signed my name and affixed the Seal of said Court, the day and year first above written. And I further certify that the foregoing declaratin was read over to the declarant and witnesses before signing.

There is no evidence on file in this Office that Benjamin Greensky was enrolled and mustered into service in Co. K 1 Regiment of the Sharp Shooters Michigan Volunteers. But the Muster Roll of Co. K of that Regiment, for the months of May, June, July and August, 1864, there is the following evidence of service: He is reported Private Benjamin Gransky, "killed in action at Spottsylvania, May 12, 1864".
