There was a full company, one hundred strong, of Indians attached to the regiment I had the honor to command, the First Michigan Sharpshooters, and they were model soldiers in every respect. Their powers of endurance were of the highest order, and they were in all respects equal, and in many superior, to the best white soldiers.
