1855 Questions Regarding Land Choices
Ionia Mich. Aug. 29 1855
Sir,
We came here yesterday with a view of selecting our Lands at the Land Office in this place according to directions from you. We have examined the plats of towns comprising the counties of Mecosta and Isabella, and are unable to find four towns, in one body, that are vacant in nearly all the towns in those counties it has been more or less taken by individuals, and in most of them large tracts have been selected by the Sault Ste. Marie Canal Company. Under the circumstances we do not know what to do. Will you please advise us how to proceed by addressing a letter to Joseph Elliott Indian Missionary at Middleville, Barry Co. Michigan.
Very Respectfully
Your Obt. Serts.
